Obituary of Dr. Anthony M. Timpanelli

Dr. Anthony M. Timpanelli, age 71, of Trumbull, devoted husband of Lucinda Christino Timpanelli, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2015 at his home with his devoted wife by his side. Born on May 6, 1944 in Bridgeport, he was the son of Angelina DeGirolamo and Dominic Timpanelli. Tony graduated from St. Augustine Grammar School in 1958 and was a 1962 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Bridgeport. In 1964, he attended Southern Connecticut State University. He began his banking career at City Trust Bank in the Executive Training Program. After two years he was promoted to Assistant Vice President. He returned to school in 1968 and graduated from Belmont Abby with a Liberal Arts Degree. In 1974, Tony then began his career in education in the Darien Public School System, teaching at Holmes and Tokeneke Elementary Schools. In 1974, he earned his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Bridgeport as well as his Sixth Year Degree in Administration in 1976 from the same institution. He attended Teachers College, Columbia University, where he earned a second Masters’ Degree in Administration. He attended Oxford University in England in 1978 via a summer program with the University of California at Berkeley. In 1981, he earned his Doctorate Degree from Columbia University in Curriculum and Teaching and was also a member of Phi Delta Kappa. In 1989, he became Assistant Principal at Middlesex Middle School in Darien, CT and in 1999 was named Principal of Hindley Elementary School where he remained until his retirement in 2009. Dr. Timpanelli worked for 35 years in the Darien Public School System. He prepared his students to be self-sufficient and contributing members of the world and was able to impart his knowledge of the classroom and blend it with the implementation of current and meaningful programming for the district. His elementary school achieved Blue Ribbon Status. Tony enjoyed gourmet cooking, reading, traveling and entertaining family and friends. He was an impeccable dresser, an exceptional dancer, and a great friend to many. He loved sharing a good laugh with all. He was a devoted husband and treasured every moment spent with his wife. He was a true gentleman and he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his devoted and loving wife of 23 years, Lucinda, survivors include his mother Jane Timpanelli and his sister, Patricia Timpanelli, both of Trumbull, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and colleagues. He was a loving uncle to those he considered nieces and nephews. Tony served on the Trumbull First Selectman’s Golf Classic as a commissioner and was a member of the Senior/Community Center Building Committee. He was a member of the Liturgical Design Committee at Our Lady of Grace Church where he also served as an usher. Funeral services will take place on Friday, August 21, 2015, at 9:30 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, Stratford, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in the St. Monica Mausoleum in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
