Obituary of William G. Degnan

William G. Degnan, age 87, beloved husband of Ann Morganroth Degnan of Shelton, passed away on November 16th, 2014, after a long illness but brief stay at Lord Chamberlain in Stratford. Born in Hartford, CT on July 27, 1927, he was the son of the late Bernard and Anna Cusick Degnan and was a longtime resident of Shelton. Bill graduated from Hartford High School in 1945. He earned a BS from Williams College as a graduate physicist in 1949 and then graduated from MIT in 1951 with a 2nd BS in Engineering. Bill then took a job with Sikorsky Aircraft and while working there attended RPI and earned a Master's Degree in Engineering Mechanics and a second Masters Degree from the University of Bridgeport in Metallurgy. He worked for Sikorsky/United Technologies for 40 years, retiring in 1992 and then went back for 2 1/2 more years as a consultant in Metallurgy and Ballistics. Bill and his wife loved to travel and saw 49 of 50 states, and Eastern and Western Europe. Bill loved to build "to scale" model airplanes and was an avid reader. He had a passion for target shooting and was Captain of the Sikorsky Pistol team for several years. He also belonged to the Sikorsky retirees Club. In addition to his wife Ann of 57 years, survivors include a niece, Sherri Steeneck, of Fairfield. He was predeceased by a brother, Rev. Joseph A. Degnan. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the compassionate caregivers at Lord Chamberlain. Funeral services will take place on Thursday November 20th, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Lawrence Church, Shelton for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at Lawn Cemetery immediately following the services. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday November 19th, 2014 from 4p.m. to 6p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics, 2666 State St., Hamden, CT 06517.
