Obituary of August James Mantone

August James (Augie) Mantone, Sr. of Trumbull was welcomed into the loving arms of our Lord while surrounded by his devoted family on Sunday, October 12, 2014. Augie, age 61, was born in Bridgeport on September 6, 1953 to the late Libertor and Mary Lasorso Mantone. He was raised in Bridgeport and attended Read School and Central High School. He worked for many years at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course, The Connecticut Post and most recently as a driver for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Stratford. He was a communicant and catechist at St. Theresa Church in Trumbull where his students all loved him and requested to be in his class. Augie was an avid golfer and belonged to the Fairchild Wheeler Golf Club; he loved horse racing and enjoyed trips to Saratoga during the season. He also played poker at various clubs and was a member of the Trumbull Senior Center. Augie had a very fun-loving personality, was spontaneous and loved to travel with his family. He loved to eat as much as he loved to cook and bake. His sausage and peppers and crab stuffed baked filet of sole were better than any restaurant's. Augie was a New York Yankee and New York Giants fan and immensely enjoyed movies and his favorite television shows. Augie had many friends and was devoted to his family. He is survived by his eight loving children – Rebecca (Becky) Mantone of Fairfield, August Mantone, Jr. of Ansonia, Brian Mantone, Stephanie, Kristen and Michelle Mantone and fiancé Brian Hychko all of Bridgeport, Savannah and Isabella Mantone of Trumbull; seven grandchildren – Ashley, Erika, Jasmine and Ricardo Sanchez, Janessa Rosado, August Mantone III and Brian Hychko, Jr. and soon to be born great-granddaughter, Makayla Alexis Sierra; a sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Ward Burling of Seymour, his former wives, Susan Mantone Feliciano of Bridgeport and Joan Mantone of Trumbull; sisters and brothers-in-law, Diana and Gerald Goldstein, Nancy and Ronald Long, James Antignani and Charlene Fardy, John and Teresa Antignani; nieces Carrie Poppa, Jaime Nichols, Jessica and Igli Telo, Rachel and Sara Goldstein; nephew Matthew Dalvano; great nieces and nephews, Alyssa, Tory, Mia, Elena, Josh, Tyler and Ashton and one great-great niece, Jayla; his aunts, Dorothy and Susan Lasorso of Bridgeport and Pat Lasorso of Norwalk and many cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Frances Poppa, his special grandfather, August T. Mantone, his special uncle, Frank Lasorso and his brothers-in-law, Louis and Joseph Antignani, who was his best man. Augie will be greatly missed and will never be forgotten. He left a lasting impression on all of those he met and helped many people along the way, as he was a very good listener and always ready to help someone in need. He volunteered wherever he was needed and especially in his children's schools. The family would like to thank Dr. Neal Fischbach and his staff for their exemplary and compassionate care of Augie, Bridgeport Hospital and Nurse Navigator, Kim Bielecki for her devotion to Augie, Dr. Pietro Andres and VITAS Hospice of Stratford, Father Brian Gannon of St. Theresa Church and to all the friends and family for their love and continued prayers. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main Street, Trumbull. Interment will be private. There will be no calling hours. The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull is in charge of arrangements.
