Obituary of Walter J. Pratt

Walter J. Pratt, age 89, of Trumbull, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Middlebrook Farms in Trumbull. Born in Astoria Queens, LI on April 5, 1925, he was predeceased by his lifelong sweetheart and wife (girlfriend), Dorothy of 65 years. He was the son of late William Pratt and Louise Mueller Pratt. Walter better known as Walt, proudly served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 on The U.S. Destroyer Cowie. He humbly re-enlisted in the Air Force Reserve from 1950 to 1953. He then began his career as a union apprentice carpenter at G.A. Fuller Co. in Brooklyn, NY. Walt was a dedicated craftsman and eventually became the Vice President of Kapetan Construction, where he retired after 45 years. He was a lifelong member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and an active member of the American Legion Post 207. In his later years he moved to Middlebrook Farms where he enjoyed making others laugh with his charismatic charm, playing cards with his buddies and becoming a pro bowler on the Nintendo Wii. Walt's playful personality made him a delight to be around and he was always the life of the party. At Middlebrook Walt was known as the Head Honcho, and you could hear the horn on his walker a mile away. He is now at peace with his beloved wife, Dorothy, their son, Walter Jr. and son-in-law, Walter Samor. Walter is survived by his three daughters, Barbara Samor of Arvada, CO., Donna Aiken and husband Gary Aiken of Monroe, and Sandi Bailie and her husband Scott Bailie of Monroe, seven grandchildren Cindi Lyon, Chris Samor, Ryan Aiken, Tyler Aiken, Shauna Spinelli, Ashley Atala, Brittany Nolan, great grandchildren, Alexandra, Zachary and Mackenzie Lyon, Macayla and Brynn Samor and AnnaBelle Aiken. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 38 Richards Ave., Norwalk, CT 06854.
