Obituary of Richard V. Bonitati

Richard V. Bonitati, age 82, of Shelton, beloved husband of the late Marian Sansone Bonitati, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Griffin Hospital in Derby. He was born in Bridgeport on October 17, 1931, and was predeceased by his mother, Jeanette De Stefano Russo, her husband, Joseph E. Russo, and his brother, Samuel Bonitati Jr. Richard was a longtime resident of Trumbull before moving to Shelton. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was the owner and operator of Spoke and Wheel Bike Shop in Bridgeport for over 35 years before his retirement. Richard enjoyed weekly Thursday night dinners with his buddies and Saturday morning breakfast club meetings with his childhood friends. He had a great love of good wine, food, and Italian music. He will be sadly missed by all the customers and friends he made at the bike shop, as well as the friends he made recently at Wesley Heights. Survivors include his four children, Lorraine Bonitati Havas and her husband Robert of Oregon, Linda Bonitati of Trumbull, William Bonitati of Shelton and Richard A. Bonitati of CA, nine grandchildren, Benjamin, Krysta and her husband Justin, Meaghan and her husband Ryan, Libby, Cyndi, Mary, Lauren, Joey and Sammi, and two great grandchildren, Elijah and Amya as well as an uncle, two aunts, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A memorial gathering celebrating Rich's life will take place on Saturday, September 27th from 4-7 p.m. in the hall of St. Joseph's National Catholic Church, 1300 Stratford Rd. Lordship. Donations may be made in Rich's honor to Bikes For Kids, P.O. Box 94, Centerbrook, CT 06409. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
